Shufeldt a Family of Farmers in Norwood

John Shufeldt (1812-1886)

Prudence C. Shufeldt (1818-1887)

John Shufeldt was born in 1812. According to the 1865 and 1880 Census, he was born in Vermont, although other sources indicate he was born in Hudson, NY. His father, George Shufeldt, was born in Germany. Shufeldt became a farmer.

His wife, Prudence, was born on January 15, 1818. They had one son, Hiram.

John Shufeldt died on June 30, 1886 at the age of 74 due to gangrene. Prudence died on July 1, 1887 of old age. They are both buried in Old Parish Cemetery.

Their son, Hiram, served in the Civil War, in Co. I of the Massachusetts 35th Regiment. Upon his return to South Dedham, he also became a farmer. Hiram died in 1926 and is buried in Highland Cemetery.
