Oliver Ellis Jr. (1787-1823)



Oliver Ellis was born on May 10, 1745. He was the son of Aaron Ellis and Zipporah Lewis Ellis. He was a Corporal in Capt. David Fairbanks’s militia company which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775.

 

On December 16, 1779, Oliver Ellis married Mary Colburn. Her parents were Samuel Colburn and Mercy Dean Colburn. Oliver and Mary ran a farm and raised four children: Paul (1781-1871), Hannah (1784-1854), Oliver Jr. (1787-1823), and Isaac (1790-1844). All are interred in Old Parish Cemetery.

 

Oliver Ellis died on August 15, 1821. His gravestone was broken; a fragment was found at Highland Cemetery. Old Parish Preservation Volunteers reset the stone in a new base in November, 2024.

Mary Colburn Ellis died on March 17, 1826. Her stone stands between the gravestones of her daughter Hannah, who married Lewis Rhoads, and her son Oliver, Jr., who married Louisa Sumner.
