Joel Guild, Jr. was born on February 11, 1796. His parents were Joel Guild and Hannah Weatherbee Guild (lots 200, 201). His grandfather was Aaron Guild. Joel became a blacksmith like his father.

On May 12, 1822, Joel Guild married Lucretia Phipps, the daughter of William and Lucretia Plympton Phipps. Lucretia was born on Mary 25, 1801.

Lucretia and Joel had six children: Joel, Lucretia, John Phipps, Anson, Emily Augusta, and Susan Elizabeth. Their son, John Phipps, born on March 23, 1828, died on December 7, 1829 of “the Quincy,” an acute complication of tonsillitis. He was interred initially in lot 212 but later moved to this lot 41 with his parents.

Joel Guild, Jr. died on December 3, 1865. His death was attributed to “insanity.”

Lucretia Phipps Guild died on January 14, 1890 in Peabody, of old age. Their stone reads:

JOEL GUILD

Died December 5, 1865

Aged 69 years 9 m.

LUCRETIA P. GUILD

May 25, 1804

January 14, 1890

Dear Father and Mother

Thou art gone to rest.

 And we shall hear thy

voices no more. But o we

know that thou art blest

 in your bright heaven,

forever more.

Their daughter, Susan Ellizabeth Guild, born on February 11, 1842, died on November 16, 1912 at the age of 70 of apoplexy. She too is interred in this family lot. Susan Elizabeth has an additional marker, uncovered and reset by Old Parish Preservation Volunteers in 2021. OPPV also reset John Phipps Guild’s original 1829 marker in this lot where he is interred.

The names of both John Phipps Guild and Susan Elizabeth Guild are engraved on the family stone as well.
