Chester Comey was the Everett School master in South Dedham from 1857 through July, 1863.
Sarah D. Rich Comey (6 June 1835 – July 1907) later remarried Mr. W. E. Pevear, he predeceased her as well. Sarah Rich Comey Pevear died in Cambridge in July, 1907. She is buried in this lot with her first husband and children.
On the left side of this enclosed plot lie the Cummings family.
Arthur E. Cummings, the son of George S. Cummings and his wife Sarah A. Cummings, was born c. 1857. George was a cabinet maker from New Hampshire. Arthur E. Cummings died on 24 March 1861 in Dedham of congestion of the brain when he was only four years old. His small stone stands to the left of the plot.
The gravestones within this plot were vandalized but, during the winter of 2020, Norwood’s Cemetery Department reset the granite curbing that surrounds the plot and restored the stones to their proper places. The gravestone of one of the Comey children remains missing.
Great pictures of the Comey project. Interesting name. Could be connected to the former FBI head.
