Elizabeth (Farrington) Farrington (1816-1907)
Daniel Burnham Farrington was born in 1814, the son of David Farrington and his wife, Ruth Gould Farrington of Dedham. On September 17, 1848, Daniel Farrington married Tirzah Maria Beckwith who was born on January 22, 1819. She was the daughter of Martin and Terzah Beckwith of South Hadley, Massachusetts.
Tirzah Beckwith Farrington died on September 13, 1858 due to inflammation on the brain; she was 38.
On June 12, 1861, Daniel Farrington was married to Elizabeth Guild Farrington (no relation), the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Farrington of Roxbury. Elizabeth was born on November 7, 1816 in Roxbury.
Daniel Burnham Farrington, a dry good merchant, died on January 26, 1898; the cause of his death was old age and general debility. He was 83. According to his obituary in the Norwood Advertiser and Review, “Less than a generation ago Mr. Farrington was one of the best known men in town. Of much intellectual ability, he was a very original and independent thinker.” The obituary continues, “In his recent years he had greatly failed in health and had passed out of notice of the newer residents. In the old days he was a peculiar and aggressive figure. Yet he had withal a kindly nature and was liked and respected by those who knew him best.” Farrington, one of the earliest of the town’s dry goods dealers, had a store for some 29 years. Prior to that, he drove a peddler’s wagon about town. He lived on George Street at the time of his death.
After his death, his widow, Elizabeth, lived with her nephew in Westwood. She died of arterio sclerosis at her nephew’s home in Westwood on June 17, 1907. Elizabeth Farrington was beloved by relatives and friends and much esteemed by old time residents. She was survived by many relatives in Norwood, Westwood, and East Walpole. She was 90 years, 7 months, and 10 days old.
Daniel Burnham Farrington and both his wives, Tirzah Beckwith Farrington and Elizabeth Farrington Farrington, were interred in the Farrington family lot in Old Parish Cemetery.
