Montgomery Newell Park (1845-1866)

Harrison G. Park was born in 1796 and graduated from Brown University in 1824. Following his graduation, he studied theology and law. He was ordained as minister of the South Church of Dedham in 1829. In 1830, he married Julia Bird, daughter of George Bird who began paper manufacturing in East Walpole. Julia Bird Park died in 1835. A few months later, in September, 1835, Park left the South Church of Dedham and served in Massachusetts and Vermont.

In 1837 he married for a second time. His wife was Elizabeth Bird, daughter of George Bird, and sister of his first wife, Julia. The couple had eight children: Julia (1838-1921), Ebenezer (1839-1914), Henry (1842-1864), Montgomery (1845-1866), Calvin (1846-1924), Francis (1849-1883), Hannah (1851-1851) and Arabella Elizabeth (1853-1891).

Several of these children were interred in the family lot in Old Parish Cemetery. Two died particularly young.

Hannah Elizabeth Park was born on May 3, 1851; she lived only four months, and died on September 21, 1851.

Montgomery Newell Park was born on February 6, 1845. Too young to serve when the Civil War broke out, he died on September 5, 1866 of tuberculosis. He was 21.

Both children were interred in Old Parish Cemetery where they were joined by their parents. Rev. Harrison G. Park died in 1876; his wife, Elizabeth Bird Park passed away in 1882.
