The Final Resting place of Elisha & Mary Ann Boyden

                                                                        Highland Cemetery Lot 53

Elisha Sayles Boyden (1797-1873)

Mary Ann Wallace Boyden (1800-1874)

Elisha Sayles Boyden was born on May 19, 1797. His parent were James and Lucy Sayles Boyden of Wrentham.

On November 1, 1818 in Foxboro, he married Mary Ann Wallace of Boston. She was the daughter of William and Charlotte Nash Wallace.

The couple had eight children: Lucy, William, Silas, Joshua, James, Orin, George, and Lydia.

Elisha Sayles Boyden took up several occupations. From 1855 to 1860, he was a farmer; by 1865, he was a manufacturer in Dedham. The 1870 Census lists his occupation as working in a cotton mill.

Elisha Sayles Boyden died in 1873; his wife Mary Ann Wallace Boyden passed away on December 17, 1874 of erysipelas, a type of skin infection.

After Highland Cemetery opened in 1880, the two were removed to lot 53 in that cemetery. The move likely took place when their son, George, died in 1885. His stone is also in Highland Cemetery.

The badly deteriorated memorials to Elisha S. Boyden and his wife Mary Ann Wallace Boyden are marked both with their names and “Father” and “Mother.” They are situated in lot 53 alongside George Boyden’s gravestone.
