Seth Morse Jr. (1753-1801)

Mary Dean Morse (1754-1842)


Seth Morse Jr., was born on December 2, 1753 in Dedham. His parents were Seth Morse (1730-1795) and Mary Gay Morse (1732-1813), who also lived in Dedham. Seth Jr. was one of six children born to the couple.


As a young man, Seth Morse answered the militia call on April 19, 1775 on the day of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Only a few months earlier, on February 16, 1775, Morse had married Mary Dean (1754-1842) who had been born on August 4, 1754.


Seth and Mary Dean Morse were the parents of ten children: Benjamin, Reny, Nancy, Reuben, Seth, Polly, Joel, Jesse, Ezra, and Thomas.


Seth Morse died on August 16, 1801 at the age of 48. His widow, Mary lived until January 26, 1842. Her gravestone was carved by Michael Gallagher, who had a shop in Canton.




The couple are buried side-by-side in Old Parish Cemetery. Their headstones and footstones have been reset by the Old Parish Preservation Volunteers.
