Nancy Lewis (1762-1853)
Ann Lewis, known as Nancy, was born on May 30, 1762 in Dedham. Her parents were Jonathan Lewis and Abigail Clapp Everett Lewis. Ann was the youngest of seven children.
Thomas Lewis, brother to Nancy, was the father of Anna Lewis, who married William D. Guild (lot 85).
In the 1850 Census, Ann Lewis, 88, was living in the home of William Guild and Anna Lewis Guild. Thus, Ann (Nancy) Lewis was living with her niece and her niece’s husband.
Nancy Lewis died on April 10, 1853 at the age of 90. The cause of death was listed as old age.
The engraving on the small marble stone belonging to Nancy Lewis – which stands not far from the gravesite of William D. and Anna Guild – has become nearly illegible from age and weather. The stone is kept clean, however, by volunteers.
